2 smoke alarms fitted several years ago both now beeping non changable batteries Do I need to purchase new alarms

Very likely. What make/model are they?

Are they mains powered with battery backup? If so, is the mains still connected to the alarm?

What do the instructions say, you can usually download them off the Internet if they have 'got lost'.
 
Thanks guys batteries not replacable I think I shall have to buy 2 new ones

Are you sure it's not just a Firex and you haven't been able to get the base off and ripped the whole lot out the ceiling? I've seen that before - tenant couldn't get the battery out!

I have seen alarms with non-replaceable batteries, but they are 10 year batteries! Not 2 years!
 
After 10 years, manufacturer says the alarms must be replaced anyway.
