My smoke alarm had been beeping about every couple of minutes. I was told that it was a sign that the battery was wearing out, so I replaced it with a newly bought battery and the same happened. So I replaced that battery and the same thing is happening again. Any ideas what's happening please?

buy a new smoke alarm, it will cost less than the battery.

sorry but thats how little these things cost, they are also not designed to be repaired

Phone your local fire brigade (NOT 999) and they will arrange to come and fit as many as your house needs for free, and they have a 10 year battery life.
