I've got a situation where I am fitting some extra sockets in a tiny cottage. The CU (manufacturer - Steeple) main sw is a 30ma RCD with 3 mcb's (sockets, Cooker & lights). The customer now wants electric smoke alarms but I cant just fit another MCB cause the main sw is a 30ma RCD.

Would you suggest I change the RCD to, say a 80A switch & then replace the sockets MCB for a RCBO & fit a 6A CB for the smokes

Or any other comments ?

Its a TN-S. Got a (labelled) 100A main fuse. Re-wire was done about 8 yrs ago. No main bonding.

What you suggest sounds fine, a 100A main switch might be better.

ok thanks for that :D . Need to find someone that sells Steeple stuff now. Also doing a job which requires GET MCBS. I think Denmans sell those makes.

Isn't Steeple a re-branded GE MCB? Same as Rexel Senates own brand Sector GE?

Or for the price of a 4 way board with 100amp incommer......

Good on you for making sure the smokes are not on the RCD though - Some sparks would not have bothered.
