smoke detector in loft

can anyone help. want to put mains wired smoke / heat detector up in loft. only used for storage/ minimal use can anyone tell me which is best as theres an optical type and a heat type any real difference. think smoke type best but ant advice welcome. cheers in advance

heat would mean you would need flames to set it off, smoke would be present before the flames
 
also ionisation - which is the one id be going for, optical could cause nusence activation by small spiders and flies entering the optical chamber thus setting it off, heat you actually have a fire going before it activates
 
decent detectors have "fly screens" to stop that from happening

Optical and ionisation.

One is best for slow burning/ smouldering smoky fires.
other is best for fast burning fires with little smoke.

I use a mixture of both in my house. I have 5 in total 2 of one and 3 of the other. Cant remember which is which.
