Mr Salmond believes he can extract more money for Scotland from the Treasury by promising his MPs' support on an issue-by-issue basis to whichever party forms the next Westminster government.

Has nobody told the Scottish nutter that blackmail is illegal?

They have got their own parliament so stop them voting in Westminster unless it involves Scotland.

What, rationality from Mr Salmond? The man who would seem to sit down and watch Braveheart before responding to any call for comment on England or the future of the UK?

Seriously, the man's a chump. Not being everyone in Scotland I can't say with any certainty, but I suspect that he represents the views of the Scottish electorate as well as any fervent nationalist does in any country i.e. at first he might seem like he's got a point, but then you suddenly wonder who on earth voted for this guy.

His view is that Scotland should get all the British claims for N.Sea gas and oil, whilst the remainder of the UK continues to shoulder the burden of Scottish bank debts. I believe this is adequately described by an expression regarding the eating of cake...

Which is appropriate, for a man who, last year, claimed £1800 for 6 days-worth of dinners (and yes, he was the only diner).
