You DIY guys will love this. Without research, I put some putty into spaces in my windows (cos my dad did it once) and next day went out to paint the, obviously, now dry putty. OH! same as yesterday... not even a touch harder. I read the tub, properly this time... and it says 24 days not 24 hours??? Seems it takes like, days to even "skin over". Seriously? I can't believe that in the 21st century we still use something as crap as putty??? In fact might as well use crap! I'm sure wattle and daub would be nearly as good and couldn't dry any slower.

Anyway, basically, I assume I'm just buggered, white blobs all over the place, and the rest of my life to wait until it looks even vaguely decent?

You can get an acrylic polymer putty which sets in a day or two ready for painting. It comes in a tube, apply it with a sealant gun.

Before you applied the putty you should have added a bit of general filler powder to absorb the linseed oil , abit like making and handling pastry,
gives it a dryer finish that can be painted.

Hello. yes... well I'm better with pastry than DIY for sure and if beading is strips of wood then I was wondering why windows aren't done like that? Car body filler I assume is a joke but maybe not, seems to be a lot of stuff I could have used, but in the end I gently painted over it anyway, mostly because my girlfriend said that a little while ago a decorator put some glass in one of her windows and then painted it the same day. So I had a look and whatever that was, still wasn't hard? Looks ok though. Go figure? Thanks for all replies.

"Car body filler" is chemically much the same as "two part wood filler", so yes it was a serious suggestion. I think people might prefer it because it's cheaper?
