Select a suitable size of single insulated cable (6491x) to be in a steel conduit to carry a load current of 30A and protected by a BS88 fuse.

How do i even start to work this out (easy to understand terms please?

"design current (Ib)" is usually the number shortly after the word "load" in the question..

the "overcurrent protective device" is the words or numbers preceeding the word/s "fuse" or "circuit breaker"
the "rating" will be the next commonly available size above the Load current

"method of installation" is as stated in the question, you need to look up the reference method in the regs book..
