Hi, we are having our sloped driveway block paved which includes in front of the garage, one Co has included 5.2m aco drain, no soakaway but another says anything over 5m must have a soakaway. Can you help please as obviously the quotes are going to differ greatly. Many thanks

You need a soakaway or equivalent if you want to do it without planning permission. You can’t just pipe it into the existing drains if it’s over 5sqm. Flooding prevention measure, overloading drains/rivers etc.

23vc, thank you for your reply. Hubby has googled about soakaway and said it needs to be 5m away from any building. Does this only refer to industrial and farmland buildings. Thanks agdin.

Refers to any building. Doesn’t have to be a soakaway, could be an area of bedding that it drains to. Just not into the existing drain.

what was the existing surface , and did it collect and dispose of storm/rainwater??? if so this could be utilised for sending the ACO colected water into and away
