Ah it was Pete, I read that as you.ah, someone else suggested that they placed the socket on top of the slats and used longer screws to reach the existing back box. They then placed some plastic trunking plastic strip above and below the inners of the socket to protect someone from touching it. Is that what you were thinking of?
If the galv extender works for you then go with it, personally I've always strugged with the right size.
When I did the trick with the PB box I had no idea what snagging there was until I reached site, once there I had to come up with a solution and had the PB box in the car. I tend to keep some to hand as they make a good basis for conversions.
