Sofa in front of heater - loss of heat?

Will putting a sofa in front of a radiator block out all the heat?

I guess eventually the heat will permeate into the room?

Anyone any experience of this ... about to order sofa!!

radiators work in 2 ways
they radiate heat out
and they convect heat up n round
stick a sofa in front of it and it severly reduces radiation

rather than change layout, change your heat emitters (engineer speak for radiators!!!)
wot about column rads, vertical flat panel rads etc?

or keep rads and get a few deck chairs.
