We use 9mm wbp ply for our soffit board (when building new), whether we are cladding in plastic or simply showing the ply.

If you are changing like for like then use the modern alternative which is an asbestos free cement soffit board.

Asbestos cement, which was often used for soffit boards, was not banned in the UK until late-1999. Having said that, the use of asbestos soffit boards slowed down long before then although it was relatively common in the undercloaking to roof tiles right up until 1999.

Although asbestos has been banned in UK construction since the mid 1980's, certain materials were still manufactured and used until 1999.

It is estimated that at least 50% of all asbestos ever used in the construction of buildings in the UK is still present.
