My roofer has just installed a valve at the top of my internal soil pipe and cut off the contact with the outside air via pipe through the roof.
Now bathroom stinks.
Was he wrong to do this and is it a roofer problem OR plumber ?

As above get drains correctly vented A A V only any use if drains vented elsewhere (at highest point)
Building regulations approved document H gives guidance.

Does AAV in the loft not suck the air in sufficiently therefore negating requirement to vent through roof ?

No! A A V only let's air in, to stop smell you need vent restoring.
Unfortunately becoming a common problem people with little knowledge using A A Vs inappropriately.
What's probably happening is you flush WC and water gets sucked out of traps before A A V opens thus smell of drains in bathroom.
Bottom line is drains need correctly venting.

Do you know why that was carried out - at your request to stop the soilpipe coming out of roof - ???

I would suggest as it was a roofer who came up with the idea, then he should resolve for you - be that himself or he employs a plumber at his expense to put right
Have you paid him in full ?

Yes - it was a roofer
He's doing it right down the street at different houses !!!!!
He is happy to put right.
