Soldering a pipe against a wall.

Hi,

I need to add a T joint to an existing copper pipe.
The pipe currently runs vertically against an outside brick wall.

I can cut the pipe to add the T joint, but I am a bit curious as to the best way to solder the bottom part of the fitting.
Must I solder the pipe the same way as I would do any other fitting?
I am worried that most of the solder will run down and will not go in the fitting properly, (I know that flux will help a little, but will it be good enough?).

Because the pipe is against the wall I cannot heat it up properly all around so, will heating up most of it be good enough?

Lastly, how would you suggest I protect the painted brick wall against flame damage?

heat mat or an old tile etc

the joint will take ok as long as you keep the pipe slightly clear of the wall while soldering
