We even used to make are own lead ingots/sticks............. :D
Not for soldering : or did you have access to the tin etc. to make grade D  Were the ingots for caulking

We made the sticks for wiping (70/30) , not enough tin & the lead would 'chalk' , not a problem when caulking but a PITA when wiping. :p

For caulking we used the ole 'pot n ladle' along with a 'squirrel tail' , just used to throw all the old scrap lead in the pot & melt it , surprising how much 'slag' we had to scoop out , anyway i'm sure this is pretty boring for the plastic guys on here so appologies. :D
