Hi. Does anyone know of a downlight fitting that is designed to go into solid insulation. Or is it a case of fitting a normal one and cutting back the insulation by 100m all round..

No such thing, and cutting huge holes in the insulation isn't allowed either.
Flameport thanks, so does that mean you cant put downlighs in a roof with solid insulation.
So i guess another option would be LCD fittings or do these run too hot as well
LEDs still require clearances - they may not produce much heat, but they are very intolerant of that which they do, and it must be dissipated or they will fail.
But any recessed light is going to be problematic, even of it needs no clearance at all it will still require a light-sized hole in the insulation.
And we've not begun to consider vapour barriers, condensation, rot and mould and yet another Building Regulations contravention...
