Apologies for posting a similar problem, but I've read many threads on here and have yet to find a definative answer.

I am laying an 18mm x 120mm Solid oak floor (mixed lenghts). I am laying them 90degrees to an existing T&G floor. The floor is reasonable, not perfectly flat but not far off it.

I would like to know the benefits of Secret nailing. I don't want to cut corners I want to get it right so it will last and not seperate. If I float it using 3mm underlay it will take out any minor imperfections, but is this a secure and long lasting as nailing?

If floating is the prefered method, does anyone have any links to a nice simple guide to laying one?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Floating floorboards of the dimension your have is not a problem. The weight of the wood itself and when T&G's are glued correctly will keep everything in place. But with any method of installation you will have seasonal changes in expansion and shrinkage.
