Hi I wonder if anybody out there can advise me on laying a solid oak flooring 120mm x 18mm onto the existing ground floor, it is going to be nailed to existing floorboards which are standard boards (not T&G) with the obvious small gaps. What I need to know is will I need a damp proof underlay and if so wht type do I need

You dont need any dpm if you are nailing the flooring to the existing floorboards. Dpm is normally used for concrete sub-floors.
If you are nailing the floor in the same direction as the original floor boards you will need to ply line the floor first.

120 x 18mm solid Oak sounds like the notorious plenty of short boards.
Try not to make a step pattern - hard to avoid when you have so many short lengths - and if you nail directly onto the exiting floorboards you don't need any underlayment.
