I am planning to lay some solid oak flooring over my traditional suspended timber (floorboards) floor.

Was planning to lay down some underlay/insulation sheet to stop any drafts coming through from the void under the house.

Should I lay the new floor as a floating floor or does it need to be secretly nailed?

Thanks

As long as your rome isn't wider than 5 - 6 meters, there is no problem in installing it floating.
If possible (in regards of the light coming in to the room) install the new boards across the existing boards at 90 degrees to prevent any 'rocking' om cupped, warped existing boards as much as possible.

2 - 3mm insulation should do the trick, don't use DPM.
