Solid wood floor upstairs - bad idea?

Would like to lay a solid wood floor throughout upstairs rooms but wonder if it's a good idea in terms of noise, insulation etc. Carpet would be the easy option, but I do like a nice bit of oak.

Anyone got any views?

and whats the problem? Good underlay if laying floating, no problem!
