Hi

So this single skin block and Renee wall I’m doing… I’ll be using wall starters do I need a verticals Dpc behind the wall starter?

I tried googling it and it seems some don’t but some do ?

Thanks
Jake

Thanks Noseall… at this rate you’ll be building it for me lol do appreciate yours and everyone’s help and patience with this
Jake

OP,
If I understand what you are asking - then we usually run a strip of DPC behind starters.

Thanks guys for all the info you have provided on both my posts.

Tell80 if I was to put Dpc behind the starter could you explain how I would fo it please ? Is it just surface mounted or more involved ? Thanks :)
Jske

My opinion also; I don't run a DPC up the corners of walls I'm building in a one-er, so why would I use one when creating a corner in a wall built in two stages? Perhaps there is something I've missed..

OP, you've made your choice so it would be irrelevant to explain the correct way & why.

Post #8, "there is something you've missed" - perhaps experience of Remedial Building Work & the ability to visualise a very simple situation.
Unfortunately you seem incapable of grasping things - maybe the term DPC panics you: it certainly does your new friend the troll who thinks that DPC means something you put down the toilet to kill bugs.

Nope I’ve not done anything yet, I try and gather as much info and knowledge as possible before I do something.
Thank you

This is a laugh; being recommended to install a DPC (something that needs to be a continuous barrier in order to do its job) in a location that requires holes to be drilled though it (to install a wall start)

Should I put a blob of silicone on every screw, make sure that rising damp stays on the porch side of the DPC? Oh, no.. wait.. the DPC will go all round the porch at the base too. I guess that damp will just have to rise up the house side of the DPC. Do you think it will reach the eaves? Should I drill the whole wall and inject silicone damp proofing into it all? :D

Jake, maybe I've missed something in another post but this isn't really possible to say accurately without knowing what you are building (yes, I know it's a porch) and what you are building against.

One thing I can guess at; if you are building a single skin against a cavity wall, there is no point adding a vertical dpc unless you are also going to cut and fit (vertically) a dpc into the external leaf of the cavity wall. If you are building against a solid wall, there is no point fitting a vertical dpc anyway.

Hi Jeds,

The upvc porch we have is a L shape with only two panels when your stood inside the porch facing forward looking outwards the door is in front of you , a full length pvc pannel to the right and to the left a double skin( not cavity) which is a party wall with next door.

All I’m basically doing is build the same shape L but out of block and a bit wider.

Obviously two side of the porch attaches to the houses

I’ll try and find a pic
Of what im,Trying to describe

I do have a party wall agreement already
Thanks
Jake
