Hiya guys, i want to soundproof an internal wall, what is the best and easiest way to do it, i was going to use some soundproof boards and dot and dab them to the wall, but i have seen videos where people mount them on battens and stuff, is that really necessary? is the barrier more effective with a gap between the boards and the wall? and also, will my plasterer be able to plaster straight over them?
thanks in advance guys...

Sound insulation is improved by more gaps, heaver boards and heavier fillings. And also lots of money.
It will be more effective with a gap between the boards and the wall.
But you might not notice the difference.
A plasterer can easily plaster over soundproof boards (their top coating is not different to normal boards).

Also There is already an ongoing discussion here that is similar.
Have a look there and then come back.
