Soundproofing a ceiling

Guys,

Looking to soundproof ceiling, whats the best approach.
As parents bedroom is above living rrom & can get a little noisey.
Gyproc & Knauf do acoustic boards has anyone got experience of these.

Time for a "search" I think.
 
What about ordinary loft insulation (mineral wool) ??

Would 200mm of this work?
 
sound muffling is better with more weight. The loft insulation is very light. It would be better than nothing, but the denser batts would be better.

Filling any gaps in the ceiling or floor, and adding a dense underfelt and thick carpet in the room above would also help.
 
I'm thinking that 200mm rockwool is only £3 at B&Q.

Perhaps with some weight on top it would be denser?
