Can anyone suggest a source for individual compression springs? I'm after a couple that will fit on m6 or m8 threaded rod, around 200N for complete compression, and 30 to 40mm long.

Curiously enough, check out the RS Components website - the leading electronics supplier.
I believe the spring strength is measured in N/mm so you should find something there.

Thanks. RS have expanded their range a lot since their early days.
the only downside of buying from them is you can only buy by the pack (10 springs per pack Z)

In the end I ordered from Ashfield Springs. Much easier to find the specification I wanted, no minimum order or quantity, and effectively delivered before 1pm next day.
