Speed checker

I recently changed from AOL to TalkTalk as ISP.

Now none of the speed checkers measure any download speed.

Its about 500 kbps upload.

Down was about 0.82 mbps before.

Any ideas?

Is it possible that you are getting less than this now and it does not register.

The upload speed is a bit faster now.

The download speed is about the same because things download in about the same time and I can watch utube without it stopping to buffer too often.

The idiot at TalkTalk technical help told me that I should be getting 24 Meg!

In this area the shown results vary between 0.6 and 3.2 in the local area but its very odd that they vary so widely. No obvious correlation between ISPs either, all have both good and bad.

The problem is probably TalkTalk. They are not a good ISP, just a cheap one.

No, it's not. The speed depends on the quality of the line, this varies far more wildly than you might think.

Surely if you have a poor line it would remain poor, but if you had a good quality line then there could be variations.
