i had it checked about 6 month ago on a gas safety inspection and he passed it, but now it has failed on a spillage test the engineer says who came to fix the ignitor switch on my fire.
Now now.....
Chances are the flue is already warm as the OP states its a back boiler and unless the customer hasnt used HW today then its unlikely the flue is stone cold and will fail straight away...
Did they leave you any paperwork stating the fire/boiler was 'Immediately Dangerous'?
Or does he actually know how to do the spillage test. Some fire fronts have a little point on the left hand side with a hole in it which is purpose designed for the manufacturers' spillage test, to be performed in a particular way. furthermore such a fire does usually require a warmed up flu to work.
If it still fails and you don't have a ceiling fan (98% of which will cause Imediately dangerous appliance), then first thing to check is the terminal. Many BBUFF terminals are too low; dwarfed by surrounding pots create turbulant air.
next question is 3rd seal ( debris plate/ register plate ) in place?
next, are pipes sealed as they exit chimney?
BBFF as they were fitted wholesale by gorillas.
modern gas fitters are a lot less neandetarl (even if they can't spell).
Anyone who tels u he has 30 years expoeriance man and boy, just think what this means? I see the evidence of what they did every day, it's not nice.
