Spraying a new shed

I have a reasonable compressor and some spray guns clsoe to hand, so when I get my shed re-conditioned I plan to spray rather than brush.

Anyone have any experience with spraying wood stain? Be that with an Earlex HVLP electric thing or air powered.. Any tips on whether to use oil or water based, and how much to thin it by? Any particular brands that are designed for spraying?
