Hi

We are installing a vaulted ceiling and require a spreader beam over 2 of the windows to support the loads above from the ridge beam.

We have been given the size of 178x102 by the engineer but how does this support the external skin.

thanks

The internal skin does all the work. The external skin only needs to support itself. Normally you would weld a plate to the bottom flange of the beam wide enough to support the external wall, but I would check with your engineer just to be sure.

Or put the beam in at a higher level on the inner leaf only and use a normal Catnic/IG over the window opening
