I have just seen an E-Mail from toolstation showing me they have some sprinklers on offer for around £8 and I am wondering if people here think they are worth the money and such or is it just as easy to water the garden manually with a hose pipe? I am on a water meter and don't have a massive garden so I am wondering if its worth it or not.

Any help is appreciated

they are essential for newly laid turf or seeded lawns but once established most lawns can handle a good drought.

They certainly save a lot of work compared to a hose. TO water a lawn properly with a hose would probably take 20 mins of standing there for a 100m sq lawn whereas a sprinkler can be left on unattended for an hour, or less depending on type, and accomplish the same thing.

If you have very bad water pressure then forget it unless your lawn is tiny. Most coverage figures are given at something very strong like 6 bar whereas many houses do well to get half that. If you do but one it should cover your entire lawn without needing moved

Thanks I have just put down some seed and drop dressed my lawn and since its very hot and no rain I am wondering if its worth investing in one since I will be watering my garden tonight to give it some water later on tonight when its a bit cooler.

I watered the lawn last night and the water just seemed to disappear under the top soil which was a good thing and something which has never happened before. I gave it a good watering since its been so hot and it looks dry on top again this morning so I presume its working well the top dressing. Based on what you have said I may get one as I will be top dressing over the next few years and if the summer is going to be like this it will possibly be worth it.

Are there any which you guys would recommend looking at as I only have a small lawn?

Thanks

James
