Ssssssshhhhhh, don't mention Reform.

Which is why it's so odd for Starmer to go on the attack, with his anti Nige' speech. He could have just ignored him and said "we are busy getting on with serious government...blah blah yawn". He has a massive majority, but he cannot hide his body language and he is clearly ruffled.

He understands that there is huge disquiet in the country. And he knows that Farage is setting the debate about what the cause of that disquiet might be. We are in the middle of something really big that isn't fully understood yet. Not just us, the whole West. It is very hard, though, to counter simplistic populist policies in times like this. Many people no longer seem to be able to accept tough choices.

You shouldn't criticise anyone's qualifications, even if it is for changing light bulbs.
It raised his game in his chosen vocation somewhat. :D:D
yeah not doing bad out of it, I have a. range rover, a harley davidson, an EV and live in an elite area, probably best not to knock it.

The disquiet is being fomented by lies and fake news.
It's the perpetrators of such lies and fake news that need to be addressed. That is what Starmer did.
Farage is not 'setting the debate' he's pushing illegal practices, lies, popular but unfinanced policies and immoral ideas.

Hat tip to Notch on the other thread. I hadn't realised that Tim Montgomerie had joined Reform. I had always thought of him as a sensible Conservative and took his opinion seriously.

Motorbiking claims pushbacks are legal and are a solution

Motorbiking is WRONG
Notch is Correct

Home Office backs down on refugee pushbacks policy in the face of legal challenge by Duncan Lewis and others (26 April 2022)

Just one week before the final hearing of the judicial review of the policy, following correspondence from the Government’s legal department late on Sunday 24 April, the Home Office confirmed its withdrawal of the policy. A court order handed down on 25 April confirmed that, as a result, the claimants have withdrawn their application and the Home Office will pay the claimants’ costs in full. The climb down comes as the Nationality and Borders Bill reaches its final stages in Parliament where the House of Lords has twice rejected parts of the Bill that would severely penalise refugees arriving in the UK without a visa, in line with their rights under the Refugee Convention

they were certain they would win, but didn't get a chance to. They got paid, lawyers always do. The claim did not focus on international treaties but domestic laws.

1) "It directed Border Force staff to act beyond their statutory enforcement powers" - Thats why governments make new laws
2) "Directed them to breach migrants’ rights to life and not to be subject to inhuman or degrading treatment" - Human Rights don't give you a right to commit crimes or be prevented from committing crimes.
3) The claim also highlighted the risks of mental harm, distress, and physical harm to Border Force staff posed by the policy. - All valid and would need to be addressed in operational procedures, like hated traffic wardens, police officers, prison guards etc. Alternatively, the government could outsource it and grant the appropriate powers as agents and officers.

Just watched the Starmer speech in the glass factory. During his speech he mentions farage once every minute and a total of 16 times during the whole thing. Who advised him to do this speech - was it Prince Andrews advisers because it was the same outcome - exactly the opsite of what he wanted to acheive. With this speech he has now recognised reform as the officuial oppisition - well that backfired didnt it.
He feels the need to do this 4 years out from an election, there is now absolutely no doubt that he is running scared of Farage and reform. Notice how doesn’t take questions from the workers either.
I said it even before Farage had decided to stand as an MP that he will be the next PM.
