Ssssssshhhhhh, don't mention Reform.

What documents are needed for the ferry and how rigorous are the checks? I've not been able to find a clear answer when I've looked before.
Apply for a visa before travelling. You must do this from your home country or the country where you are a legal resident. We recommend you do this three months before you travel
And a passport, obviously.

Only for UK and Irish citizens.

Hence, why I asked what the rules are. How can the ferry company tell whether somebody is a UK or Irish citizen. Specifically, on the routes between Britain and Northern Ireland, what documents are required. And how rigorous are the checks.

Photo ID, usually a passport.
If there's any doubt, they would ask for a passport.

Passports and Identification

Ireland / Britain routes:

Irish Ferries recommends all passengers bring a passport with them. Irish and British citizens do not strictly require a passport to travel between the two countries, but some form of (photo) identification is however required.

Please note that all other nationalities (except Irish or British citizens) require a passport. They should also check with their respective embassies before travelling as they may need a visa.

Passengers who arrive at our ports without current valid documentation may not be allowed to enter either Ireland or Britain. Useful means of identification when travelling on these routes include:
Also in booking you declare your citizenship.
If the response is not true, it might be a immigration offence, but you would lose your money and not be allowed to board.

I think once someone's crossed the channel using a people smuggler, that's a risk they'd be willing to take.

That was a quote from the Ireland - UK Ferry in the previous post.

I'm wanting to know about the route from Britain to Northern Ireland. This is the loophole that people claim is being used by asylum seekers to get to Dublin.

:ROFLMAO:

She abandoned it because it was about to get declared not legal by judicial review.

I’ve told you that

A pushback on a boat in distress is illegal.

Priti Patel backed down because she knew it was illegal
Border Force backed down because they knew it was illegal
Royal Navy said no because it they knew it was illegal
Greek coastguard has been taken to court because it was found illegal

Seems only MKB thinks otherwise. Oh dear.
Nobody is talking about pushing back a vessel in distress. They can be legally rescued and taken to france. No need for any push back.
