Stagnent Miele Dishwasher

The screw on cover on the salt dispenser in my dishwasher has been removed in the past and is nowhere to be found!

There seems to be quite a large void at the bottom of the machine that fills up with water and bits of food and gets very smelly after a couple of days, so i'm having to flush it out with clean water all the time. I was just wondering if there is anywhere i can get the cap from, or if it's possible to empty the water out and seal the hole as a bodge repair?

You need a new cap. The water softener unit cannot be regeneratred without the salt water. Go to Miele website and see if you can get parts online.
BTW, you shouldn't put foodstuff into a dishwasher, they're not waste disposal units and foodstuff in them leads to blockages.
