Hello all,
I have a staircase that has been stained a rosewood colour, its been done with a combined stain and varnish you know the likes of sadolin, sikkens etc. It has been done terrible with brush marks etc and its very patchy where more coats were needed.
I want it a dark oak colour, obviously the proper way to do it is to completely strip it back but is there any product that I might get away with that may be quicker and at least give me a uniform colour and take away the brush marks.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Problem here is woodstain ends up loosing adhesion to varnish.

Hard one to advize to be honest, due to painting history. The only thing that will cover the brush marks etc is a opaque woodstain or high build woodstain. Though, as advized woodstain looses adhesion to varnish. Also, it is very difficult to change from rosewood to dark oak ! However, you prob best getting in an Pro Stripping Company to get the staircase back to bare wood and start from there, but it is all down to how much you are prepared to spend.
