can anyone reccomend a way of staining reclaimed pine to give a creamy off white colour whilst keeping all the grains visible.
I'll be adding clear polyurethane afterwards.

thanks

you cant lighten wood without sanding it or adding paint or light colour wash

sanding will only remove the darker layer that nature will replace within a few months

adding a wash or paint will not look like natural wood

water based varnishes will give a more natural finnish without the yellowing but will tone down the wood [darken the wood see next comment]

but every layer you add will tone down slightly whether its polish varnish or clear finnish
if you add a heavier finnish [stained or coloured ]the wood darkens down quicker
