If it help, I installed solid wood worktops a couple of years ago. I used Danish oil, and re-treat it every year.
Last year I had a few stains, so sanded the worktop down until the stain was gone, then gave the whole worktop a quick sand (very fine sandpaper) then re-treated again. Looks like new.
Took me around an hour total including applying the Danish oil - which stinks for a day or so.
