Hi, just about to take delivery of a new staircase, and wondering what type of glue/adhesive is best for the wedges?

keep the glue warm [around 20 degrees ] and wood at least 15 degrees to aid drying time do not use below around 10 degrees
now in general wedged wood will self hold and give full strength to the joint instantly but nailed or clamped will need about an extra hour to dry per 3-5 degree drop in temperature below 20 to a point about perhaps 5 degrees it can take all day to grip and 24 hours to cure

but never let the glue drop below perhaps 5 degrees in storage-------aaaaand most important remove the witches hat from the top off the glue bottle cut off the visible pin about 3mm down on the larger section below the X holding the pin to make a mushroom shape return the witches hat to the now large hole and the mushroom is now a stopper for the bottle
and do not use the bottle without the witches hat unless you need a massive wide area covered

a 1-2mm bead twice across a 15-20mm surface will be more than enough and give a perhaps 80-100% cover or a single 3-5mm will give a 80 to 120% cover with loads off ooze

d4 works best on very tight and clamped where its forced into the surface and becomes a microfilm and dries quickly
