Anyone ever taken up the first few steps on a staircase in order to utilise the space underneath to store things (in my case probably outdoor boots and shoes...)?
I'm thinking of replacing the removed steps with 2 sections of steps that pivot up out of the way to reveal the storage space...
Any pitfalls with this plan I should know about ?!

Seems like a Pain in the ass unless all the occupants of the house are highly disciplined.

if you go for a drawer you need to increase the thickness off the treads below and above any drawer as the riser gives strength to the stairs
you also need to remember iff you are already using the under stair space then 60% off the space gained will be from the understair area when using a drawer

And the drawers will get full of dust as well. And if some kid inadvertantly leaves a drawer part-open......
Many of them would not pass Building Regs.
