Hello. I was recently renovating my stairs staircase area and removed the old carpet to discover the stairs were boxed in using MDF. ive removed the MDF to reveal a the original old stone steps which are quite warn and wonky. Or perhaps 'Character'. Im not quite sure what to do with them, either clean then up and leave or perhaps they should be re clad in some proper wood?

A couple of the bottoms steps are probably the worse. They have delaminated to a degree where the moisture or damp has been blocked from escaping by the cement underneath the mdf (used to level the wood)

Looking for some help and suggestions.

The house was built in 1820s.
