Hi
I am at present making a hallway between one room to an extension bedroom. The extension was installed in the 60's with no access except through a bedroom.
However where the old stair case will join the new hallway four stairs have to be put in from the current staircase. In order to do this a hole needs to be made in the floor and two, possibly three joists cut. My idea is the strengthen the next joist along with a second joist attached to it (across the whole span wall to wall) then to right angle off this new joist to support the cut joists. The new staircase will run from the internal wall (old stair case landing which has beam support arcoss the house) to the new and old joist, be attached the a brick wall on one side and attach to the right angled piece and cut joists on the other.
please can anyone advise if the new joist is needed and if this would be the correct way of securing the cut joists.
Thanks for any help in advance.
Andy
