Standing water / waste in solvent welded pipes - bad?

K

KillingTime

Hi,

I just opened up a soil pipe in my bathroom, and it appears that the section inside the house (before it exists through the wall) is not level and has about one quarter of water & waste sitting in it (at any one time).

Is this bad?

I heard somewhere that if you let water stand in a pipe section for too long, the solvent seals go.

Thanks.

Pipes wont be solvent welded if you have took them apart! ;)

Can't see the water harming the plastic pipes though.

Worth sorting the level though as you may have a blockage at some point ;)

I took the top of an unused vertical bend in a branch pipe using a dremel....that's how I can see into the waste pipe.

I'm sure I've heard somewhere that standing water can rot the solvent weld...

As water is PH neutral I can't see it myself but DO modify your pipes to avert future probs :D
