Standpipe Height

so 'nominal' means inside diameter (i'm looking at one of thoses nice charts in a book).

The boiler is an ecotec 831, maximum Hotwater 31 Kw or 2.9 m³/hr

Maximum permitted length of 1/2" including bends is 6m.

i must have been looking at the max CH output when i stated 24kw.

.. so does nominal mean inside diameter then?

sorry for hijack this is my last post on this thread :D

copper is sized on OD outside diameter

steel is sized on ID inside diameter try cutting a 1/2"" bsp thread on 15 mm copper

BTW

we are gonna start charging you tuition fees

What reading did you get when you checked the working pressure at the gas valve :?: Also did you gas rate the boiler :?:

OK guy's here we go...

Boiler all fired up, hot water working & central heating doing the business as well.

I've measured the gas pressure & it reads a nice healthy 25mbar at the inlet. I've moved the gas inlet to a shorter run of steel in the wall which brings the run down within the 6 metre rule.

Cheers to those who gave the constructive critisicm regarding the gas supply, I wouldn't have known any different & now I do. also I've rejigged the waste pipes so there are less 90 degree bends.

On another note all the electrics were signed off on Saturday too, we now have power, lighting, hot water & central heating now...

25mbar?? Working pressure?? :o Better call out Transco or are you measuring standing pressure.

with regards to the gas supply. it doesn't matter what is on the boiler, every situation is different depending on the length of the run from the meter, the restrictions (ie bends) the rating of the boiler and any other appliances that may be on that run. If you're not sure, get someone to check it. Undersizing a gas main can be extremely dangerous.

don't you need to be corgi'd to do anything with gas? or install a boiler for that matter?

If you're measuring standing pressure it's not telling you anything about gas pipe sizes being correct or not, just that you have gas present. You need to measure the working pressure at the inlet with the boiler and all other appliances on full belt, or better still, get someone competant to do it for you.

wonderb0y,
You need to be corgi registered to do any gas work for pay.
If you are doing it for yourself or as a favour then you must be competant but don't have to prove it (until you blow something up)! So best not to touch anything if you're not 100% sure.
