Starmer postpones elections even further in Reform areas...

what a coincidence stink

Of the 63 councils invited to request a postponement of their 2026 elections, Labour controls the most of any party at around a third, although a slightly higher proportion are under no overall control.

Of the 20 Labour controlled councils, 16 are districts and four are unitaries. The Conservatives control five of the six counties with scheduled elections and five districts, giving them ten in total. Eight districts are Liberal Democrat controlled.

1) They are not ridiculous.

2) Because of your continued support for Farage.
I do not support him saying things such as the language that you suggest, I do not think saying something as a schoolboy is really anything to be concerned over 50 years later.

I'll take Curtice over you, no offence (y)

"Illegitimate" says the Electoral Commission.

So, from the article you quoted (with bits of emphasis from me, as you seem to be having trouble spotting some of the words:

Alison McGovern, the local government minister, wrote to council leaders across the country asking whether THEY wanted their elections to be delayed.

Ms McGovern told them: “If YOU voice genuine concerns about your capacity, then we will take these concerns seriously. To that end, the Secretary of State is only minded to make an order to postpone elections for one year for THOSE COUNCILS WHO RAISE CAPACITY CONCERNS.

She also requested that authorities respond to her by Jan 15 if THEY wanted to see their elections postponed until 2027.
.
.
.
[Sir Chris Bryant] said “ordinary people” would believe it would seem “a bit daft” not to delay ballots while plans to reorganise local government are under way, and that most would say the postponements “make sense”.

Speaking to Times Radio, Sir Chris said: “Some people will see a conspiracy in anything anybody does in government. But we are doing a very important reorganisation of local government. It’s one of the most important reorganisations we’ve done in many, many decades.

“And I think it’s clearing up something which I’ve always thought was a bit bonkers, which is that in lots of local areas you’ll have a local district council and then a county council, and people sometimes don’t know who’s in charge of what.

“So we’re moving to a system of unitary authority. So there’ll be one local authority in your area which does everything, through from bin collection and running the schools, providing social care, and the roads, all of that in one unitary local authority. Those aren’t going to be coming into existence for a couple of years.

“So it’s a simple question, which we’ve asked a whole load of these local authorities which are going to be affected.

“Do YOU WANT to have another round of elections next year for people who will effectively only be in charge of a local authority for a single year? Or would YOU PREFER us to delay those elections so that you’re just electing for the new local authority, which will be a unitary authority?

“I think, to be honest, that most ordinary people in the country would go: ‘Oh, yeah, that makes sense. Why would you just elect people for a year? That seems a bit daft’.”

So it isn't "Labour plans to postpone local elections", it's "Some local authorities which will soon disappear plan to postpone local elections". It's a Labour government which will be listening to requests from councils because the current government is a Labour one.

And it's happened before - local elections were postponed in places undergoing reorganisation, with councils going to disappear, in 2019. Local elections were postponed in places undergoing reorganisation, with councils going to disappear, in 2022.

Nobody here complained about those. But then again, it wasn't a Labour government responding to requests from local authorities.

Funny, that.

Starmer is postponing elections in areas where Reform is likely to win.

I do not think saying something as a schoolboy is really anything to be concerned over 50 years later.

For years, schoolboy into virtual adulthood, with planned, deliberate intent. Not a few off-colour jokes, not a bit of "banter" between friends, but a sustained campaign of racist and antisemitic abuse directed at ethnic minorities and Jews.

Anyone who says they are not concerned is saying they are not concerned about racism and antisemitism. It comes as no surprise that you are one of those.

It comes of no surprise how you feel either.

It's Farage Derangement Syndrome, a mental condition related to Trump Derangement Syndrome.

No, it's something called "the truth".

But I accept that in your weird anti-world, you view believing the truth as being deranged.
