Steam clean timber before oil

I have my engineered oak flooring laid which needs oiling to seal and finish it. The dog despite being told not to has managed to slobber water on areas of it that have left water marks. I am considering going over the entire floor with a steam cleaner before oiling in the hope that it will lift any such marks.

Is there any issue with doing this to bare timber before applying the oil?

Oil is not fully waterproof so you will need to put a mat or tray under his bowl.

Oxalic acid can bleach out black stain.
