steam shower - any maintenance tips from long term users?

I'm very keen of my new Steam Shower - it works perfectly right now but it took a little bit of adjustments here and there - for example I sealed it from inside the cubicle which was a basic mistake...now, I've rectified the issue and there are no problems - but having installed the rest of the bathroom I'm concerned about the possibility of some maintenance and having to inspect the back of the shower in a near future means having to remove the sink (it's a very small bathroom).
I'm keen to take note of any tips from more experienced users of how to make sure things go smoothly as far as possible....The Steam generator for example; does it need to be de-scaled like kettles?

- as I suspected, calcium deposits can become an issue...better to install a carbon filter in the bathroom - also, a good periodic cleaning with citrus solution for shower head, steam generator and other parts.
