I think you'll find that the arrestor wire wasn't used and later on they do a stop and go. Still fecking nutters though.

Short takeoff achieved by aircraft having a powerful engine, and large wing area, engine is revved against the brakes, giving large propwash over the wings, which gives almost instantaneous lift with very short take off roll.

it was a fairly common technique for that aircraft. It was used extensivly during the seige at khe shan in the vietnamese war. the aircraft would do that with teh cargo being launched out of the back to re-supply the troops, but limiting the risk of being hit whilst on the ground.
