Have stone window cills which in the past have been painted with white masonry paint. However with the number of surrounding trees green algae soon appears and I am repainting on a very regular basis. Is there a gloss finish white paint which would adhere to the stone on top of the existing masonry paint.Would any surface preparation be required.

As masonry paint has a slightly course finish the algae has something to adhere to, also if the sills are in the shade most of the time from the sun this will not help either. The sills can be rubbed down and filled and prepared in the usual way. Normal undercoat and gloss is usually fine to do these in. Iv'e never had a problem coating them up.

Thanks for your reply Robbie,Dulux weathershield should do the trick then

Weathershield is even better. Most paople dont want to spend the extra on buying it but its worth it.
