Hi, I've got a back boiler heating system. This morning my wife found a small pool under the front of it. When I asked if this was the first time she'd seen anything she told me she'd cleaned up staining on a couple of occasions now....but hadn't mentioned it

The water is dirty with particles (of rust I'm assuming) in it.

So I'm looking to get a new boiler now....

In the mean time can I still use the heating? Would putting a 'Stop Leak' product in it help or will this just clog up the pipes and radiators?

Thanks :)

It could be the heat exchanger, flue condensation or leak on connecting pipework. You don't say make or model? If parts are available then yes anything can be repaired, but back boilers are not considered efficient now and need expert attention to repair and recommission.Get a RGI to remove the firefront and assess the damage and quote for repairs. It may be time to upgrade. Its probably ok to use it but beware that there are electrical connections to the back boiler. Leak sealing products are not suitable for all situations.

Thanks, the model is a Baxi Bermuda.

The leak is coming out the front on the right hand side, looking inside I can see water marks on the right hand side at the back?

I do realise I need to change the boiler but, I'm self employed and it's that age old thing of 'cash flow' I've got the cost of a new system due to me but, won't get it for a few weeks :(

You'll need the pipework re-routing and the new boiler/flue installing so it won't be cheap.

Bermuda heat exchangers can be repaired depending on model but very labour intensive.Go for new system and negotiate deferring the payments.Probably BG would allow that but at a premium.
