I've just changed a consumer unit in a bungalow where there is a storage heater around 80cm from bath/shower. I know this is just outside of zone 2 and now also has RCD protection, but should the heater also be adequately IP rated or not?

Looking at 701 it makes no reference to items installed outside the zones. I would guess a common sense approach is that the heater should be considered appropriate for its location though.
