Hi all.
I'll try and keep this brief!
We had a multi fuel stove installed earlier in the year, with a twin walled flue put through the house. - All (except the stove) supplied and installed by a Hetas engineer, who signed it off and gave us the Completion Certificate.
By chance, we have found out the the 5 inch twin walled flue system he used should have been a 6 inch one, and so is technically not complying with Building Regs. Further research found that it is not dangerous to use, (the regs only went up to a 6 inch minimum in 2010) but the stove needs sweeping more oftern, to avoid soot build up and blockage / fire risk.
To comply with the Building Regs, the solution appears to be that either the 5 inch flue be changed to a 6 inch one, or the fire changed to a Defra approved one.
We contacted our local Building Regs dept, but they were worse than useless, and seemed to have no idea on the regs they are supposed to implement. A call to Hetas resulted in a very laid back guy saying that yes, technically it was wrong, and perhaps we should inform the installer , so they don't make the mistake again
We have just knocked out a letter to the installers, informing them of this apparent mistake, and will await their respose.
Anyone with experience of stove installs like to give an opinion on this?
