Hi,

Currently renovating the bathroom - tried to search for an answer for this but could not find a simple yes/no.

Cabinet is in zone 3. To simply replace the bathroom cabinet with a new one (has integral light and shaver socket) is notifiable or not?

Thanks

Provided the electrical service is existing then there no need. If you are changing from a cabinet without power to one that has power (and hence providing the wiring) then it is notifiable.

17th edition - work since July 2008 doesn't have a zone 3.

Quite why To2C had to be cryptic is beyond me.

Lovely... thanks chaps.

By the way, just one other small question - Ideally we want an illuminated mirror and bathroom cabinet with shaver socket on the same wall.

The current light is a shaver socket & light all in one.

So ideally the existing connection would be connected to the illuminated mirror, then fed out of here to the bathroom cabinet that is directly adjacent.

Is this notifiable? As you said before, the feed is already there.

Thanks!

The law (i.e. Part P) still refers to the zones as the ones in BS7671:2001 hence as far as notification is concerned, until they amend the Statutory Instrument Zone 3 still exists.
Adding to a circuit within zone 3 is notifiable.

Thanks for all the info chaps. Sparky is connecting the whirlpool bath so will get him to install the extra circuit at the same time.

As is quite often the case, this has got me thinking

We thought that since the light would be on the mirror, there would be no need for a cabinet with a light also. However, we want a shaver socket in the cabinet (for the toothbrushes!). Our preferred cabinet would be a stainless steel or aluminium one, but these don't seem to come with shaver socket only... so....

Would a sparky object to installing a suitable shaver socket inside the cabinet (bearing in mind the cabinet would be highly conductive)?

Thanks again!
