What paint stripper would you recommend for removing paint from old doors? I'm using the heat gun which is fine for the top 2-3 layers, but the bottom two are very stubborn and coming off as dust (which is a worry as they are old and I fear they may have lead in them). Don't want to get them dipped. I've read some awful reviews of some on homebase/B&Q website.

I have always favoured Nitromors. Recently had to strip and entire staircase - bannister and spindles. Was a real b*gger but at least the paint did come off!

None of the paint strippers available now - even the trade only ones - are a patch on what Nitromors used to be like. There are good reasons for that, but it does make it harder to get a good, paint-free finish.

Hot air stripper...poky stripping tool...Nitromors in the grooves...lots of wire wool...more hot air stripper, etc.

It's a bore.
